Samsung Galaxy Note Review

Samsung Galaxy Note Review. The Samsung Galaxy Note is a new super-powerful Android device that explores new ground in size and performance. Packing a dazzlingly brilliant 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, the eternal debate will be whether this a phone or a tablet, but there is no answer – it’s neither, either and both all at the same time.

For the purposes of this review, though, we’ve treated it as a phone. After all, it runs Android 2.3.5, makes calls and (just about) fits in your pocket. So it’s a phone. Or is it? One thing’s for sure – it’s one of the most highly specified mobile devices ever forged in the fires of Mount Samsung, and has more wow factor than any other device we’ve tested in recent years. Take this out of your pocket at a party and you’ll be circled by dazzled onlookers within seconds.

The star of the show is that amazing screen. At full brightness it’s an absolute stunner, but for the sake of your battery you’d be advised to tone it down a little. Viewing angles are superb, and colour vibrancy is better than any other device on the market. But it would be half as impressive if the phone wasn’t so thin, powerful and light at the same time. It measures 146.85 x 82.95 x 9.65mm and weighs just 178g, which is how, despite the size, it’s actually possible to slide in and out of a pocket.

Despite that, using it with one hand is an impossibility, especially for anyone with small hands. And it’s got to be said, it’s so big it looks a little silly when holding it up to your ear to answer a call. A Bluetooth headset might be a sensible peripheral purchase on that score.

Dual core

The brains of the device are provided by a dual core 1.4GHz CPU that more than matches any other top-end phone, and the rest of the key specs hold up to scrutiny as well. There’s an 8MP camera for shooting pics and recording 1080p
videos, a 2MP camera on the front for video chats and self portraits, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot and a monstrous 2,500 mAh battery.

The other notable hardware feature is the inclusion of a stylus. Samsung calls it the S-Pen, and the Note is the first Samsung Galaxy device to use one. Many people will struggle to find a use for the stylus, but its presence represents Samsung’s desire to make the Note a true all rounder and a stand-out performer in the mobile space for both regular consumers and business users alike.
