Kindle Fire Review – Apps and Games

Share on :
Kindle Fire Review – Apps and GamesKindle Fire Review. No Kindle Fire review would be complete without mentioning the multitude of apps and games available. Amazon has tested thousands of the most popular apps and games to ensure proper compatibility. You can also buy your own apps from Amazon Appstore which currently has about 10,000 supported Android applications. It is bit of a let down knowing that the Android market currently has over 200,000 apps. Fire users will also receive one paid app for free everyday. Most of the apps and games only cost between $0.99 to $1.49 on Amazon.

This is one of my favorite aspects of the gadget. I travel by plane regularly, which means that I have a lot of downtime waiting in airport terminals. Sometimes the airport terminal can be too noisy and distracting for reading a book, however a game, which requires me to be actively involved really helps to pass time quickly. One of my all-time favorites is the classic game of Solitaire, which is available on the Kindle Fire. Also, another source said Amazon will be adding more apps to its Appstore eventually.

Kindle Fire Review – OS, Interface & Navigation

One powerful advantage Amazon has over its competitors in the e-tablet market is the company’s massive selection of content. Amazon has not embedded the Honeycomb 3.0 in Kindle Fire as many have speculated. The operating system on Kindle Fire is a slightly modified version Google’s early Android 2.3. It supports multi-tasking.

At the very top, on the left corner there is your Name (e.g. Rob’s Kindle), in the middle it displays the current time and at the right corner you will find the battery and network connectivity indicators. Underneath you will see a large centered search bar which is positioned very conveniently.

And below there are buttons to browse your favorite media – News, Books, Music, Video, Docs, Apps & Web. In the main screen area you will find your most read books, magazines or most watched videos in cover-flow style. Navigation is done completely using the touchscreen, there are no physical controls on the device.

Kindle Fire Review – Games

Kindle Fire has some cool free games like Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies, Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Greedy Spiders etc. You can download these games for free and are worth mentioning. I am sure many of you are already familiar with these very popular games. They are quite engaging and challenging enough to keep you busy for a while.

Kindle Fire Review

Angry Birds for Kindle Fire

It is an animated game which features a war between a bunch of pigs and a flock of beautiful colorful birds. The story happens to be that the pigs are hungry and they attacks for the birds’ nests to eat their eggs. Obviously the birds would not sacrifice their eggs and this wages a war between the pigs and the Angry Birds.

In the game your task is to help the birds to take down the pigs using a finger-powered slingshot. The pigs are hidden or protected behind various objects like woods boards, glass, stone blocks etc. Using the touch screen you fire the birds using a sling shot and try to hit the pigs behind the obstacles. Sometimes you have to blast through the materials and to hit

The winning goal is to hit all the pigs without running out of birds. This games needs good aiming skills and definitely some luck. The physics of objects shattering are very realistic and I believe this game is enjoyable at any age. Angry birds is the most fun game I found while carrying out this Kindle Fire review.

Plants Vs. Zombies for Kindle Fire

The game is about a bunch of zombies are trying to get into your house and your only line of defense is your plants! The plants each have unique properties and also there are some special ones. You can as well select different environments like Day Time to Night Time & Fog Mod. You can spends hours playing this game and it’s great fun.

There is been no clear answer from Amazon regarding this, only vague answer was that the apps which require special feature (e.g camera) which is not present in Kindle Fire leads to this incompatibility. Also, another source said Amazon will be adding more apps to its Appstore eventually.
